The Carlinghow Mills depot: built for the Heavy Woollen district

Our Dewsbury operation is based at Carlinghow Mills, an old textile mill site on the A638 Bradford Road that sits almost exactly on the boundary between Batley and Dewsbury. The site's history is part of the reason we picked it — Carlinghow was one of the mills that defined the Heavy Woollen district, and the wider area (Dewsbury, Batley, Mirfield, Heckmondwike and Liversedge) still has the mix of Victorian terraces, old mill conversions and industrial yards that makes local skip hire a very specific job.

From Carlinghow Mills we run the fleet that covers WF12 through WF17, plus a chunk of BD11 and BD19 across the M62 boundary. The A638 and A644 give us fast runs into Mirfield, Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton, and junction 26 of the M62 is three minutes from the yard — which is how we end up delivering into Gomersal, Birkenshaw and the outer BD11/BD19 edge on the same drops. 2 and 4-yard mini skips for bathroom and yard clearances in Dewsbury Moor and Ravensthorpe, 6 and 8-yarders for the kitchen rebuilds and terrace renovations across Mirfield and Heckmondwike, and bigger 12 and 16-yard jumbos for the commercial jobs on the old mill sites.

Because the Dewsbury depot is closer to WF13 onwards than our Wakefield HQ is, we route all bookings for WF12 and further west through this yard rather than Denby Dale Road. Distance matters: a skip coming out of Wakefield for a job on Ravensthorpe Road has to cross half the WF district, whereas Carlinghow Mills is five minutes away. Faster delivery, faster swaps, lower fuel cost passed back into the price.

Why the Heavy Woollen district books with EFR

A depot in the middle of the district

Carlinghow Mills sits on the A638 between Batley and Dewsbury — right in the heart of the Heavy Woollen area. That means faster turnaround on renovation projects in Mirfield, Heckmondwike and Ravensthorpe than any Leeds-based operator can offer.

We know the Kirklees permit process

WF13, WF14, WF15 and WF16 are all Kirklees Council — different application rules, fees and lead times from Wakefield Council. We handle dozens of Kirklees permits a month and know exactly what they'll reject.

A fleet rotation suited to tight streets

The back-to-back terraces in Dewsbury Moor and Heckmondwike don't fit an 8-yard builder's skip. Our smaller 4 and 6-yard rotation, plus wait-and-load as a fallback, means we rarely turn an access problem into a cancelled job.

One depot, both WF and BD coverage

Because we sit on the WF17/BD11 boundary with junction 26 of the M62 at the door, we handle drops across both postcode groups from the same yard — handy if you've got a project straddling Birstall and Birkenshaw.

Excellent, friendly service, recommended.”

Dewsbury skip hire — the questions we get asked

Answers tailored to the Heavy Woollen district, not generic national-operator copy.

Where is the Dewsbury skip hire depot?

Our Dewsbury operation runs out of Carlinghow Mills, 501 Bradford Road, Batley WF17 8LN — an old textile mill site on the A638 between Batley and Dewsbury town centre. Technically we're just inside the WF17 boundary, but the depot exists specifically to serve Dewsbury and the Heavy Woollen district. WF12, WF13 and WF14 get the fastest turnaround from here because they're all within ten minutes of the yard. Call the depot direct on 01924 637220.

Is Dewsbury covered by Wakefield or Kirklees Council for skip permits?

It's split — and it matters. WF12 (Dewsbury, Savile Town, Thornhill) and WF17 (Batley, Birstall) fall under Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, but WF13 (Dewsbury Moor, Ravensthorpe), WF14 (Mirfield), WF15 (Liversedge) and WF16 (Heckmondwike) are all Kirklees Council. The two councils have different fees, application windows and lighting/cone requirements, so if your skip is going on a public road we need to know the exact postcode before quoting the permit. We arrange the application either way — just tell us the drop location when you book.

Do you deliver to Mirfield and Heckmondwike?

Yes — Mirfield (WF14) and Heckmondwike (WF16) are two of the busiest postcodes for this depot. The A644 and A638 give us a direct run from Carlinghow Mills into both towns, typically under fifteen minutes each way, so we can usually offer next-day delivery and sometimes same-day if you book before midday. We also cover Hopton, Roberttown and Liversedge on the same route.

Can you handle a skip in a tight Heavy Woollen terraced street?

We do this every week. A lot of WF13, WF16 and parts of WF17 are back-to-back terraces with narrow streets, on-street parking and awkward turning circles — our drivers know the area and will bring a 4-yard or 6-yard skip where an 8 simply won't fit. If the street is too tight for any skip to sit safely, we'll recommend our wait-and-load service instead: the lorry stays on-site for up to an hour while you fill it, then leaves with the waste. No permit, no obstruction.
